I'm reading this right aren't I?

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/downloads/theme_econo...

October 2009 to October 2010, inflation was 9.8%.

Now, I admit that I don't follow it that closely and the figure is about what I'd expect it to be. But if there was hard evidence that inflation was running at 10% I would have expected to have heard about it in the News a bit more?

The same value for CPI comes out at 3.2%

Just checked these this morning as my work has a contract with our local Council that is index-linked to RP02 year-on-year for October.

Please tell me I'm right?

Dunno. For Nov 09 - 10 I get 226.8/216.6 = 1.047; so 4.7%.

I think.

But could be totally wrong.

Oh crap, I think I subtracted one number from the other, rather than dividing them didn't I!

Oh well, I've asked for 9.8%, hopefully their accounts will make the same mistake as me. Either was 4.5% is better than a kick in the teeth.
