I'm looking for an 03/04 v8 petrol vogue, Hoping for a sub 70k miles, I'll only buy with good history and would prefere an LPG converted car. But I'm struggeling for advice. I get the impression that they have a number of common problems. Does anyone have a list of jobs that should have been done, like recalls for instance? and any jobs that you would pefere to have been done? I've heard of things like front drive shafts, steering columns and gearboxes that may need replacing or reconditioning at some stage so I'd like to get together a list to check when looking.
And if anyone has a black one with grey interior please post!!

Cheers

If you do the same research on nearly any car, and you will find a list of common problems.

Just minimise your odds of a problem, by buying the best example you can afford. History and condition are most important.

When looking for mine I spent a month or so checking all the websites related to the car.

Fullfatrr has the most specific info.

But as has been said every brand/model has issues.

Just buy the best you can afford and hope it doesn't go too wrong.

Yeah be careful I heard a neighbour of mine had a Jag S type needed a new gear box so obviously they are all going to need them?????

Rubbish.

All cars have issues.

It's an expensive car when it goes wrong it's expensive.

But when it's right it's a great vehicle.

www.rangerovers.net was handy for me when I was looking

I have an 04 petrol vogue, 56K on it at the time, no major issues

if you are worried about major expensive failures, get a warranty, buy from the trade

to be honest, these are rare occurances, most of the issues are small niggles, DIY sunday morning tweaks n fixes

..it wouldnt be a British car otherwise LOL wink

Ebay clicky for a recon box at £1200 still expensive, but not outrageous for the type of vehicle. It's very straightforward to fit too, although bulky.

I'm astonished people will actively seek to buy cars that suffer known, multiple & often disastrous common problems.

My image of someone driving one is obviously not the same as LR portray

Without being rude.
If your neighbour followed the news he would have known it is strongly advised to change the gearbox oil and filters as often as you can.
That doesn't stop the boxes going pop but it helps the lifespan.
I was warned away from my P38 and my L322.
Buy an Amazon/G wagon.
I think it's a great car.
It has it's faults but I know not of a perfect car.

No, local Indy...

Main dealer quoted £5k

Apparently the gearbox, torque converter, and oil cooler was around £2200... Labour around £700 and on top of that the dreaded VAT...

He did get a years warranty though...
Torque converter and oil cooler would be a precautionary replacement to avoid the risk of debris entering the new box. Hell of a chunk of change though!

The Ebay link to the refurbed box states that it includes the Torque Converter. For a mere £35 you can buy an oil filter kit to enable you to change the transmission fluid as a pre-emptive measure.
