urgent help please p38 auto stuck in reverse

I recently bought a 96 p38 4.6 for winter use and have today managed to get it jamed in reverse while changing from hi to low ratio, i may have changed and put in reverse to quickly but the car was stationary at the time and is displaying no error messages, the problem is the catch wont pull up so the selector cannot be moved.
Please help.

Sorted. More force aplied to the gear selector catch than any bit of plastic should be able to take and it moved and is now free and operating correcly.
