Hi, my car (honda CRV) has auto adjusting headlights. I've just had an MOT and was charged for them to adjust the headlights, how can that be? Surely the starting point of the headlight is set at time of manufacture, and this must be electronic in some way for the lights to be told to adjust when it meets a criteria. Surely when the criteria is not true they return to their maufactured setting, so how can they need to be adjusted?

the dealer sets the target alignment, then the car automatically maintains that alignment with respect to ride height, passengers, boot full of coke etc

The suspension could have settled making it and the headlamp lower, the headlamps could have been knocked out of alignment in the past. To set them up they may have had to initialise them through the control unit before using the manual adjusters. This all takes time, hence the charge.
