Job Interview in HK?

My last post was about what to do next after graduating, and since then I have moved to London and work as an analyst, it is not the most exciting job and its not what I want to do specifically longer term, but it's good relevant work experience.

I have applied for a graduate scheme in HK and have been asked to a group interview on Dec 28th over there. (currently living and working in London).

It does note on the e-mail I have received:

• To qualify, all applicants must have the right of abode in Hong Kong, SAR. Alternatively applicants holding PRC passport and studying full time in a recognized university in Hong Kong may also qualify.

I'm unsure about how I should approach this, as it does say to contact them for further assistance.

Basically, I'm not going to be able to make it over there for a short group interview, but I do want to go for the job. I'm going to e-mail them back to explain my situation, but I'm not sure what I should be trying to get out of this, I was hoping for a phone interview so they could see if I was right for the job, which I believe I am.

As for qualifying for the role I understand on a British passport I can work over there for six months, I'm not sure what happens longer term if I have a full time job?

I'm just looking for a bit of advice from people who have worked over there with regards to visas, and what I should do about explaining my situation and organising an interview of some kind.

You probably don't have Right of Abode in HK, so you won't get the job. You also can't/won't attend the interview. They want locals basically.

A good general rule with jobs is that if you don't know what something means it's unlikely to be you they are looking for.

Have they given you an air ticket and hotel? if yes they know your satus, if no then youv'e applied for alocal only job and they havn't noticed your address, if no air ticcket jest forget it.
I'd be amazed if you can get a work permit for atrainee job.

You are not allowed to work for a local-HK company on a British passport unless you have a work visa. When you enter the country you have effectively a 6 month tourist visa.

Yes, but I was talking about a job role - for example if it said must have htrp and tton and you don't know what they are then you don't have the right skills. You could then learn those skills to be more suitable next time. With regard to the op if he didn't know if he had the appropriate visa then he probably doesn't.

All nationalities need a work visa, sponsored by the employer.
You gain right of abode (permanent residency) after 7 years of continous living there after filling out loads of forms
