Mot failure

Had my MOT today and failed on emissions, how do I get them down?! It also failed on perishing valve caps, but that should be simple to sort. Any hints for the emissions though?

The answer is to take it to an emmission friendly MOT testing station - plenty around if you ask

As for the perishing valve caps, are you talking about the dust caps on the valves on the tyres? If so, I didn't realise that they were part of the MOT test

Sorry, I think it's the rubber around the valves, rather than the caps themselves. But I need new tyres anyway.

blimey, how old are the valves for the rubber to perish. your car is either a 200 miles per year job, or your tightwad tyre fitter doesn't change them.

If its down to the cats, couldn't you borrow someone who's de-catted theris, just for the test?

or like other have said (and makes more sense) get it passed else where

Ive covered more miles in the past year than the previous owner cover in four! So I don't think the tyres recieved much attention. I'm going to replace all the tyres soon anyway, I think I'll just get the emissions retested until it passes...
