147 1.9 JTD Ti Multijet MPG question
Discussion
Have had a 147 alfa for a year now and on average we get around 42mpg, even on long motorway journeys. I read somewhere that we should be getting 47mpg on average. I noticed there is a big lag and a sudden boost from the turbo at 3000rpm. Was thinking maybe the turbo is on way out (56k miles) and this is causing a lower than average MPG?

We get about the same MPG as you so seems to be the norm
That is disappointing re the quoted mpg. At the last service there should have been a tune up, but it wasn't carried out by an Alfa specialist, so I'll get that done. He can check the pipes at the same time. I'm also going to try some magic bullet fuel additive and see if a de coking of the internals helps.Cheers for the advice everyone!

We have a 147 LUSSO JTD 8 valve from new. It's now done 44k miles and we've averaged 46 mpg. You're not far off. Have to say it's been THE BEST CAR WE'VE EVER HAD, and still drives like new. Good choice.
PS; also have a TVR.
Clearly a man that likes to drive cars with passion! PS; also have a TVR.

I'm going to try some Magic Bullet fuel additive to give the internals a clean out. Hopefully I'll get up to your levels!

Martin

Thought it'd loosen up with some miles on it, at 30k now and hardly any difference in mpg since new.
It does go well for an oil burner though! I wouldn't question the MAF unless it was dipping below 35.
It seems like alfa quote higher than actual mpg on their cars, 2.4 159's don't seem to be doing book figures either.
