Considering a move towards self employment and would like to improve my carpentry skills - not trying to become an ace joiner or cabinet maker - but would like to learn some general tricks of the trade for making various joints, squaring frames (stud walling, shelving etc), decking etc.

It's a long shot, but does anyone know of a decent partime course provider in Surrey, Hants, Berks area.

A number of the local FE colleges used to offer this type of thing but in the last couple of years major cutbacks in funding for adult education have resulted in these being canned.

Nescot College do a very good level 1 Carpentry and Joinery Evening course. Its £1500 per term.
