Quite pleased with this one. Moon popped out behind clouds lighting up Shieldaig - I ran and got the camera - handheld 4000 ISO f4.5 at 1/50th - Bracket 5 shots. Moon then disappeared.

Simply superb.

I always feel a little bit awestruck by the power of moonlight

Very nice shot like the exposure.

To me the orange tones of the lights around the houses convey a welcoming warm feeling.

Maybe that's just me.

I like it smile

Yeah it's got that cosy feel to it! Lovely shot, the more subtle illumination of the hills in the background is great.

Very nice indeed.

I like the gate/midge shot as well - must have been very tricky to open without disturbing too much snow?

We had a high of -6 here today, so snow wasn't going anywhere!

It's like being indoors though. So still. Doesn't even feel cold. Spooky.

Ta for the comments.

Ah, right.

I once experienced -24 standing at a bus stop in Stockholm. Expected about 2 mins but the bus was running late so I was there for about 10 mins. As you say, it was quite still and very dry air and with a business suit and a decent long coat plus rubber soled shoes it really didn't feel cold in the way UK chilly weather normally does.

There is a partial eclipse of the moon in a day or so. May not be much good in the UK (just before dawn apparently) but might be interesting around your way if the snow is still around ....

Is this a hand held HDR then Steve? Or did you use just one of the 5 shots? Nice BTW smile

A beautiful photograph Steve. Do you set the camera to auto bracket, or do you do it manually?

It's permanently on 3 frame auto exposure bracket (+/- .7) but sometimes I'll bump it up to 5. I never take a single frame... 90% of the time I'll choose what Nikon thought was the best exposure, but occasionally I disagree. It also means I can HDR if I so desire.

This one taken earlier this week is actually a 5 frame HDR (as I knew the foreground would underexpose)

HDR only really works well when it's very subtle IMO. It's fun, but a bit hard work to look at otherwise. Some of the photos here just make me feel ill smile

Frankly I'm disappointed that you haven't, er, you didn't include, um, something negative.... No, I got nothing - great photo. Again.

Can you please stop raising the bar so high?
