Tyre covers for driving in snow / ice

Could anyone tell me if these things work, are they easy to fit and which are the best ones? I have not seen them but asume they are the same idea as chains. Would be very grateful for any information and advice.

I've yet to try them, but I'm a big fan of good old fashioned chains.

Quite cheap to buy (unless you buy them now when everyone has put the price up!) fitted in a couple of minutes once you know what you're doing and a great amount of traction.

The Socks look great but I'd be worried about them wearing through.
