It does a bit but the HSV one looks a bit better; see www.hsv.com.au/ and click on the yellow one for spec etc. Admittedly body wise its still a bit plain.

Of course, but why is it winning design awards ten years after the Calibra was introduced????

Having done some work in the automotive industry in Oz recently, they seem to heap accolades on anything with a Holden badge on it, even though its an old GM platform thats been mucked about with and had V8 slapped in it. Ford of Australia on the other hand at least build and design their cars from the ground up so are probably more 'Ozzie' than the GM with a Holden badge and spoilers. But don't tell the locals that as Holden roolz or something...
IMHO of course!

The front end looks like a Mazda 626 and the back three quarters looks like a Seat Cordoba.

If this has won a design award, I'd hate to see what the non-award winners look like!

Too late mate! The Monaro is an excellent design, understated yet aggresive, bla bla bla (read the magazines). You have to see it in the flesh to appreciate it, and that photo is not exactly the best. You also have to consider the rose-tinted cult revolving around the HoldenVsFord racing and consumer battle that has been raging for decades down under. The Vauhxhall blandmobile image seen in Europe just never happened in Oz/NZ. They've always had a cool racing image to uphold. In no other car can you get so much speed, comfort, fun, image and looks, practicality and quality for SO LITTLE MONEY!!! (1994 vr Clubsport, barely 15 gees
(at least, on earth). A few parallels with TVR i see

BTW, New Zealanders buys more HSVs per capita than Ozzies, Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons are, and have been for a while, the most popular cars Down Under. The reason for this prolific purchasing of Big Cars is the space, baby, the space! NZ, 3.8 million in the approx. area of UK

sorry, boring day

Speed kills... drive a Ford and live forever!

Agreed, a fact about Holden's/HSV's is that the pictures never do them justice.

I thoroughly recommend seeing one in the flesh and more importantly getting a drive in one before you start ripping these cars apart. They are fantastic!!!!!!

this was the oldest thread too. Can't believe the Ro was that old, I remember talking to Big Nige at the time they came over. He bought one, I bought a 350z

Yes and even 7 years ago, the Monaro was likened to one of the more attractive coupe models as opposed one of the rather more bland 4 door saloons

Funny how it was said it looked like a Calibre (A Mk2 Cavalier variant.. fits another car a bit closer?) instead of the Calibra wink
