Wallander BBC4 Confusion reigns

[oldmanbm]

Tuned in the other evening on BBC4 to watch 'The Man Who Smiled' the book of which I enjoyed this summer. Different Wallander - now a big guy with a different team. Confusion reigns. In my mid the Swedish wallander earlier in the year was my TV highlight of 2010.

What you have in the Wallander genre are three sets of programmes.

1995-2007 all the nine Wallander books were made into films. The actor is Rolf Lassgård, as you say a big guy. I've not seen all these but they are quite good and has some moments in them where one can nod knowingly and recognise the setup. If you know what I mean.

Then you have the Krister Henriksson series which had two seasons and were all new stories. To my mind, these are complete st as police procedurals, which to some extent is what Wallander is. For example far too ready to draw sidearms and discharge for my liking, and there have been at least a couple of occasions where somebody who was basically a suspected / known scrote who was not doing as they were told were simply executed when they themselves did not have a weapon. You can imagine the st storm in RL if that happened.

Then there is the three part Kenneth Branagh series, again based on the novels. Undecided about this series tbh, but good effort generally.
