Now I've always thought this was a terrible idea but several times I could make no progress in any gear at idle. Change of tactic, second gear and 5000rpm soon got me moving !

Drifting round a roundabout, proper sideways and full throttle. Great fun. Probably no good for the car though.. smelt bad afterwards

Is it an auto gear box thing?

E46, rwd, auto, summer tyres

It smelt bad? Maybe you're moving slowly and air isn't moving quickly enough through the radiator?

Are your fans working ok?

Or it could be the traction control biting at your brakes?

Cheers

Have to confess I was driving home at 30mph on snow the other day and in third gear put my foot down to the floor. A Yaris has never done 30-60mph in under 2 seconds ever before biggrin. I could probably got it to 80mph. Must be some Guiness book of record for the most difference between speedo reading and actual velocity on snow.

Yeah traction was always off (in fact it seems the whole lot has packed up, DSC, ABS, etc, hopefully ice somewhere it shouldn't be)

I got stuck on an uphill today and did all the gently stuff to no avail. What got me going was 1st, foot down, DSC off and off we went in a controlled sideways drift up the hill.

Oh! manual with Falken 912s all fitted last Spring.

To be fair there were lots of people blocking roads today! I just needed a little shove now and then. As you say, the car just wheelspins down the camber into the kerb.

I made sure I drove where there were always people wink

I did that in a Sprinter minibus. That much weight behind the back axle and leaf springs makes for epic drift skillz.

I have the horrendous P6000s on the back at the moment. I only bought them as they were cheap and I like a bit of sideways.
They seem unstickable in the snow, I am very impressed!

Are they really that bad nowadays or is it just a PH bandwagon. I had P6000's fitted twice on my XR2 (back in the day) and they were fantastic!

Mmm, they are bad! I dont like to wave my own cock but I do like a bit of sideways alot. Especially with my old 335 E30 but these are pretty evil on the M5.
I have had it step sideways with the traction light flashing at 110 in 5th.
Normally I would drive with traction off but I just cant trust these tyres.
BUT, they are cheap and they are made of granite so you can drive like a comple tt and they still last forever.
Fine aslong as you remember that they are there.

There's a lot of crap gets posted about tyres being good or bad. The fact is that a tyre that's bad on one car may be excellent on another. Grip, handling and all other characteristics are a result of the combination of tyre/wheel/spring/damper/overhang/weight/etc/etc. Can vary hugely from one car to the next, even on the same make/model.

I agree but if anything I thought they might have been better on the E39 rather than the XR2 due to the weight?
They seem a very hard compound to me.
Mine are old though, nearly 5 years old before being fitted but i believe they were well stored.
Maybe they are a bit hard?

My sister in law got stuck this afternoon and we went to push them out. When I arrived there was an awful smell of burnt clutch. 6 hours later it still smells. Citroen C6 MPV thing, manual.
