So how much will this cost me!
Discussion
Managed to go up an embankment on Wednesday, the irony was that the last thing I had said to my passenger was "we aren't going to go fast, the car's cold".
Went up onto the embankment clipped a small tree and spun around to the position you can see below.
The underside of the car appear to be ok and even though the wheel got a lump taken out of the suspension doesn't appear to be bent. The rear bodywork took the impact with the tree which cracked above the wheel arch.
Aside from some surprise damage on the drive train the big concern for me is the two tone paint which I assume is £££ to repair.

Does it matter how much ? That is what you have insurance for.
Will it cost more that your excess ? Probably.
But then it will all be done, and done right ?
to broker asap. Get a claim in. Who knows how much, but several grand I'd bet.
If you only have third party.................................................
See that dot on the horizon ? That is your Christmas & 2011 just disappearing down the Swanney River. Sorry

Out of Order
I kinda get what Kelwedge was saying. There's a certain train of thought on some motorbike forums that unless you are stationary that at some point you are contributory to an accident, whether through the way you were riding or the position you put your self on the road, or just the choice of road you took.
Newtons first law usually applies.
As the OP hasn't commented on the causes of the accident, it'll be pointless speculating though. I can however sympathise entirely with how he must be feeling and fair play for posting the pics.
I followed a BMW 3 series out of town yesterday. We're all crawling along at 20mph and he thought he could do faster with a touch too much throttle out of a roundabout. Cue him sliding the back end out and pirouetting into a blameless peugeot. He was most insistent that it wasn't his fault, despite several people saying it was.
Is that a flip flop paint?
If so then I believe they can be almost impossible to match as the effect is created during the application and is hard to reproduce and get it to blend with the existing one.
Best speak to your insurers and get it to a specialist repair shop (one that understands GRP).

Stuffed my s2 a few years back, had been going a bit too fast over hartside pass and stuck it in a ditch. Only had third party insurance so stuck it in the garage for months as couldn't bear to look at it. Mate talked me into making a start fixing it and ended only needing a new set of bonnet hinges and some fibreglass, then painting. It did take quite a few weekends to get it back into one piece but saved a lot in prep and just got it painted by a pro to finish it up. s
t happens either just claim on your insurance or have a stab at getting t fixed yourself if you don't want to lose your NCD.

sorry to see your accident, it needs to be fixed well as this is a high speed car, the worst thing is the car will be worth about 5k less now than before it was damaged.
Nonsense - that might be true if it was damaged enough to be declared cat C or D, but for a relatively minor repair like this, provided it is done by a reputable specialist like Liphook or Surface and Design, the car could actually be worth more. For example, you could get all those minor stone chips and scuffs that we live with day-to-day sorted out while it's in the bodyshop.Pete

Yep it's flip flop paint, the car is with Raceproved in Sheffield. If so then I believe they can be almost impossible to match as the effect is created during the application and is hard to reproduce and get it to blend with the existing one.

What I was after is a an estimate of how much it is likely to cost, if we are talking less than £1000 I'd definitely just pay it as my excess is £500 and my premium would get loaded for the next few years even if I have protected NCD.

If i owned the car,i would want a firm like Surface and design to repair it but imo, your looking at 5k plus, as it will need a complete re-spray as well due to the flip paint.
Ive never seen a car which has been damaged selling for more than one which has'nt been even if theres no stone chips but if you can show me one which has, i'll admit i have been talking 'nonsense'.
Well Pete, you may think its a 'relatively minor repair', but from what i can see, its not, but maybe it would be best to hear what the insurance company thinks.

So a cracked arch is 5K to repair!!!
By that reconing a bag of chips is fifty quid!!

maybe you should read my post again paying attention to what i wrote.
i have a crack like that in the rear end of the tuscan, its being fixed in jan for 500 quid (painted from the doors back) mines not flip paint though but i do have the option to colour change to nebular black at the same time for 2 grand, so i doubt very much you are looking at 5k, i would get the cassis checked though.

I've emailed the pics to Surface Design for an estimate, there is plenty of debate on the internet as to whether flip flop can be fixed with or without a complete respray. It would be fairly mental to paint a car in a manner which would require a full respray everytime you do minor paint damage particularly on a car that needs a respray every 3-4 years on front clip. But then again it is a TVR.

Raceproved in Sheffield have got the chassis covered, hopefully the relative weakness of the Spider alloy has saved the suspension/chassis from a pummelling.pete said:
