I was sitting infront of the TV having returned home from a friends house earlier, at 11PM I heard a loud BANG outside, as I have my Van and Car parked on the street and it's snowing I instantly fear the worst, I jumped up and look out not to see someone having collided with either but some idiot dressed in a dark clothing and a dark hoodie, scrabbling to run away from my van.

Enraged, I put on my shoes and gave chase, realising that they were too far to catch them I walk back towards my van and find a Transit mirror lying on the ground (which my OH later informs me he had in his hand when he tried to run away) and some marks on the N/S door glass the van, clearly his intentions were to try and break into the van, for what I don't know as the headunit faceplate was removed and in the house and there are no other valuables inside it.

Slightly fked off by this I decided to have a nosey in the surrounding area, and finds said idiot in a hoodie barfing his guts up at a lamppost less that 500 yards away around the corner, after a few "choice words" and him being forced to be sick again, let's just say I reckon he will think twice about trying to break into my van armed with a Transit mirror again.

Now normally this behaviour is out of character but it's nowthe 3rd time the van has been damaged outside my door and alas the first time I've caught someone in the act.

On the street unfortunately, I live in a flat with no drive.

No BIB, can't see the point, anyway I carried out my own punishment and would probably be the one arrested because of this.

If I had a name and address then perhaps I would have carried out my own form of nemesis on his house with the transit mirror in question

Don't know how much restraint you showed, but if it was any, you are a better man than I!! Would have fed his balls to him through his ear.

Possibly, but I'd hazard a guess on him being barely able to remember much of what happened tonight.

Good on you OP, thugs like that need a good hiding once in a while. They make our lives a miserey through theft and destruction of property so I thinks its only fair that, once caught, they get abit of a slap etc. Its karma.

Might be worth refitting the mirror with shear bolts, it's possible he was trying to get to the wiring behind the mirror to disable the locking of the van and get into the back rather than being after the headunit

If it had been me to catch him, he would find it a whole lot easier to be sick after I had smashed all his teeth out with the transit mirror..

Cheers guys, after sleeping on it, I have calmed down significantly, I wasn't sure if I had done the right thing but clearly I have

I didn't make it too clear in my OP about the mirror, I have a VW T5 Transporter, the idiot had tried to use a mirror removed from a Transit to break into the van, not my own mirror, this was thankfully undamaged.
