Most snail mail these days seems to arrive with some sort of printed sticker rather than a stamp. And a complage absence of a date of posting, presumably so that we have no idea how the post is performing.

I see the cost of first class is going up again. There's a surprise.

This is ridiculous, even for our politicians. Labour hate the monarchy, and would love to see them gone. So their objection is pure rhetoric.

And, anyway, many 'stamps' are just printed receipts without the Queen's head on it anyway.

fk all truth going on here.

Since the whole Post Office/Mail thing is shortly to be privatised one has to assume that it will no longer be 'Royal' anyway. In which case the poor old Queen's head is no longer required.

The price of letter postage is ridiculoulsy cheap for what it is, if they really did privatise the postal service, I wonder how long it will be before the cost of posting a letter gets measured in pounds rather than pence.

I would be perfectly happy if Royal Mail doubled their prices if it meant that their postmen actually attepmted to deliver stuff rather than sneaking a 'sorry you weren't in' card through your letterbox.

"YES", if you're posting from the Scottish islands to some hamlet in Cornwall.

"NO", if you're posting from London to Birmingham.

Since Deutsche Post is a prospective buyer of Royal Mail we can presumably look forward to a nice picture of Angela Merkel to replace the Queen! biggrin

Will a courier do it for less?

Might as well just keep the old bird's head on there, the royal family is German anyway

As I understand it, they don't HAVE to put the Queens head on stamps NOW. However, they do so because they want to (please the Queen, it's nice to have on the stamps etc.).

After any sell off (if there is any) the incoming owners may also decide to keep using the Queens head, in fact I think they probably will anyway.

Even if they did remove it, does it really matter? The world won't end. Personally I don't really care. If they keep it, great (it's a nice thing), if they don't my post still gets sent so so what.
