Done a little Reading up on this and apparently they predicted WW1 and Hitler and the Tsunami on Boxing day. They also predicted a game changing event in 2012 ie possibly the ending of mankind -extinction.

Now how genuine were their previous predictions? Tenuous at all?
And what is the event- I'm guessing it has to be solar of some kind.

Were all the events highlighted above purely liked after the fact ie no early warning - which clearly the tsunami is modern enough for global preparation.

Could this be linking with the Dalton Minimum repeating? Could it be mass death due to cold long winters high storms etc meaning globally there isn't enough food being produced to provide for mankind as such there would be a game changing number of casualties. Could it then be a disease from the billions of rotting corpses and also the total collapse of the economy ?
Or is it the end of oil??

If so just thinking it may be seriously the time now to do everything you always planned.

The 2012 thing is just when their calendar runs out, a bit like a 70's programmer and the millennium bug smile

Can't see the Mayans leaving a calendar with Adolf Hitler and Boxing Day tsunami written on them somehow...

There is no 2012 prophecy, just the end of their calendar where the bloke doing it got bored and went to play frisbee.

I wasn't aware that they predicted WW2, or a tsunami. I believe they also predicted the eruption of a volcano a few years ago (Not sure which one) That's been dormant for years and never went off.

I think it's a load of raaaaaaaabbbish.

Although i could be proved wrong.

It is strange that their calendar appears to have an end date. Not sure I believe any of the rest of it.

More likely that someone misinterpreted the calendar and the fact that it is ending.

In fact, quite recently, maybe two-three weeks ago I saw something online mentioning that that Mayan calendar does not actually end in 2012.

But I really cannot be bothered to search for it.

They didn't predict anything, same as nostradamus, they made vague references that something would happen, and anyone who stubbed their toe that year would assume "OMG, That's like sooooo true!"

2012 does have very strong astrological significance due to all the planets in our solar system getting into alignment during 2012! this of course herald all sorts of stuff, just think what it means to the various planets gravity and magnetic fields in relation to one an other!

What does it mean then ? I can't think up of anything too catastrophic.

I don't think that's true. We have more than one copy. The odd thing is that, if they had advanced knowledge of any kind, why didn't their calendar end when their own civilisation ended? Why continue it for a seemingly random number of years?

I don't have much truck with the other predictions; it just seems odd. Still, I suppose we'll find out shortly.

If in doubt, ask wikipedia

If the Maya were so bloody clever, they'd have known the Spanish were about to pitch up to nick all of their gold and silver, give them all manner of pox, and generally rain on their parade.

On the other hand, try making an appointment in Google Calendar after the 31st of December 2050....ooooooooooooh, we're doooooooooooooooomed.

It's the End of the world. If it's not true we have nothing to worry about. If it is true there's nothing we can do about it, and I won't be able to say "told you so" smile

Interesting, but it isn't all right. We aren't headed for a solar maximum, for starters. More likely the opposite (thus all the snow).

And I dislike the use of the word 'conspiracies' as an assertion that it must be bks; history is full of them.
