I think I'm in a minority, but last when the gritter went down our residential road, I did not cheer.

Nope, within a couple of hours the layer of snow was replaced with slush, and overnight it turned into a perfect ice surface. For the next 4-5 days we had a proper local authority ice rink all the way down the road. Stopping was possible because we still have lamp posts and several trees.

As people didn't see snow, they still drove like maniacs down the road!

At least on the compacted snow they kept their speed down.

+1, more grip on fresh, fluffy or even compacted snow than melted and re-frozen ice!

oh, and no rot on the car!
