Removing injectors
Discussion
Stood in traffic this morning when all of a sudden the car went onto 7 cylinders ("sounds like a Subaru ") So i checked the plug leads, no 8 lead was off. Started it up still the same. checked the plugs for a spark every thing fine.swapped the plugs around still no joy, am i right in thinking it could be an injector stuck open (no 8 manifold is cooler after a few minutes of running) if so is it just the four bolts to remove the fuel rail to test the injector.?? Also found a flat headed tapered screw and nut (about 4mm thread) sat on the inlet manifold between front two cylinders any ideas welcome????
Mine was firing on 7 the other day (on the drive home after picking it up from a service!!) and it may sound silly, but I've found that if the leads are to close to the plenum, or exhaust manifold or other chunk of metal then the problem sometimes seems to occur. I just had a fiddle with the leads, made sure none were resting on anything and it's been fine since.
My leads are only a few months old to (magnacors), so it's not as if they're worn out.
It may well have been coincidence and it just fixed itself, but I do like to keep my leads from rubbing or touching anything else in the engine anyway!

If an injector is stuck open the corresponding cylinder's spark plug will be fouled because it will be flooded.
IMHO an injector will either fail closed or partially closed (dribbles) - don't remember reading of any failing open. IF it has failed open, it will "dull" the whole performance envelope, creating a "noticeable" reduction in smoothness and running. Far worse than a bad plug/plug lead. As Steve says, will also manifest itself as fouling/flooding of adjacent plugs.
Again, all in my humble opinion (IMHO!!)

I don't see why adjacent plugs would be affected, the injectors are *way* downstream from the trumpets and it seems unlikely that there would be any significant cross-talk between cylinders. We know the original problem was caused by the HT lead falling off, which will have flooded that cylinder and also caused overfuelling on all other cylinders due to the lambda correction. My guess is that all the plugs are sooted up but running, and the plug that has been disconnected is hopelessly fouled. I would replace all the plugs as a matter of course, and also check for damage to the HT lead and supressor cap for the lead that had fallen off. It's possible the injection system has coincidentally developed a fault at the same time but I don't see anything to suggest this and it seems pretty unlikely to me.
I'm surprised the injctor went at the same time the plug lead fell off, still can't see how they could be related? But it does sound like you have identified the problem. Since you've got access to all the injectors now I suggest you send the whole set off to be checked and cleaned. I gather that injector problems are getting more and more common nowadays, must be something to do with the modern fuels. In any case if one is dirty it would be sensible to check the others.
RPI offer a cleaning service and replacement (obviously), try this :www.rpiv8.com/carbs-2.htm

Wher would you send them to be cleaned ? do you think they may be able to repair the damaged one as well.[/quote]
Power Engineering in Uxbridge can do it. The Injector cleaning/testing machine in the bible is theirs.
I would recommend having them all checked and cleaned,
It is very common to have injector problems these days, something they put in the petrol ? RPI, Power eng, or Mech Repairs of chelternham, all have a cleaning service.
You should re-fit the cleaned injectors as soon as poss, they don't like being left without fuel.
If you need the od replacement i have some second hand ones.
