Hi guys. Just sitting hoping the snow disappears before the tax runs out at the end of the month as I won't be renewing the tax until spring 2011. I was wanting a wee blast before it was left tucked up for winter. I'm sure there is a few other guys with the same problem.

I have the fuel gauge and sender and will be fitting them when I have the time and I will have to get the brakes working better as they are terrible. I have to work in a small lockup garage 100 yards away from the house so no power or heating.

I wouldn't fancy it: even if the snow melts tomorrow there'll be thousands of tons of salt still lying around... by the time spring comes the undergubbins would look fit for scrap.
But thanks for reminding me: I was intending to cash in the tax on my bike. Dunno why I thought it was a good idea to renew at the end of October banghead - might as well claw some of it back from the thieves in so-called power.

If the brakes are bad then use them! I find that they really come to you if you use them hard once a day, I usually brake hard from 60 to 30 when I get home to the village limit and that keeps them keen.

As for a drive this year, there's always Xmas day with the top down!

Slightly off topic... but my tax runs out at the end of the month. I haven't had the reminder, postal delays. Can you declare SORN without the reminder?

Think you can do it either by phone or "on line".

Id be very carefull if i was you as the DVLA have a database of cars with or without MOTs and if and when the snow clears a lorry could turn up and take it away to be disposed of..They do not discriminate they will take anything..If its on private ground then you can sorn it but it must be off the road..Zig

Yeh, I got pulled up last month and the copper smuggly strolled up to my car and asked why I thought I'd been stopped? So I smuggly said could it be something to do with the MOT I passed this morning!!. Copper disappears back to their bigmac and crossword.
I wasn't aware until then that the B.I.B. knew when your MOT has expired, not that I am particularly against the idea. I'd rather people got points and fines for driving a potentially dangerous car than for doing 80 on the motorway.

You can't do it online but can do it at the Post Office with the V5

If you pre-arrange for the work to be done at a garage, so long as the car is insured you should be ok to take it there (so long as it it reasonably road worthy). Or you could always get the garage to collect it for you.

I have sorn'd it now, how do you re-tax the car? I would need the MOT to be done, can you drive it to the testing station without bother? The dvla website doesn't really say.

As long as it is insured and you have a firm appointment with the MOT station it is OK.

Ditto.
To re tax it without the reminder later on you'll need all its info,ie.insurance, mot, log book.
