I am due to do this journey (return the same day) tomorrow.

What are the roads like and is it doable?

Thames Valley is fine on the major routes and secondary routes - only side roads are a problem.

Don't know about the weather/roads, but I did almost the exact same journey a couple of weeks ago and would advise careful studying of the state of the M6 and consideration of the M6 Toll. Using it got me there 2 hours early, and sticking to the the M6 got a colleague there half an hour late!

Shrewsbury itself is alright but the last couple of nights the M54 has been in a bit of a state. You should be fine though.

A mate did pretty much this journey yesterday (Haywards Heath to Oswestry).

Roads were clear and it took just over four hours.

Much better than the journey in the opposite direction on Saturday which took 21 hours eek
