As I have had trouble finding a bodykit for my C5, I've decided to have one made. I knocked up some pix in photoshop and I'd like your opinions...

1) Extended "race" version of the original:

2) Ferarri 360 inspired

3) Porsche 996 GT3 inspired (my fave, I think!)

4) Lamborghini Murcielago (kinda grows on you)

Try to be objective folks - "They all look shite" doesn't really help anyone!

Anyone have any particular favourites?

Think I like no.1 the best as well. Like a normal vette but stronger.

Col - Yes, I'm with Cliff and Tristram, 1 is about the nicest. In taking inspiration from existing shapes as you have, what do you think about applying the Jag (E-Type or XK) look, or even the DB look.
Personally I've always liked that Jag front. I see certain similarities between that and the Callaway LM front (for the C4), to the extent that I'm in the process of going in that direction.
Good luck with it, what ever way you decide.

Pic 1 is the best...easily....and better than the C6 by a country mile. Second place goes to the 360 Modena look. The 3rd pic looks like a Porsche cayenne crossed with a Mitsubishi GTO and the Gallardo look just doesn't suit the C5.

Can you graft an SLR/Enzo cone on next please? That should make parking interesting.

IMO the best C5 nose is one that got rejected in the design stages of the car. There are photos inside the front cover and on page 38 of the book "Corvette C5" by Mike Mueller (got mine from Haynes). Apologies for not having the skills to post a scan on here - must make the effort one day to find out how it's done!

So y'all don't think that No.1 looks a bit... Trans-Am?

I'm seriously interested in any input I can get from people about this - the situation being that I really want to do something different with the car, but I'm worried about having something "not right" with the front end, and ending up hating it.

The main problem being that this is kinda a one-shot thing - it's going to be horrendously expensive to have this made from CF, so I need to make sure I'm 100% happy with it before I go.

Anyone suggest any improvements on any of them?

I'm very interested to see the pic of the rejected C5 design too - could help with inspiration.

I'll do a few more tonight. I'll do an ENZO, but I don't think the SLR would work....

Just modded one of them quickly - here is the porsche inspired one, but without the bars, so it doesn't look Cayenne inspired...

Anyone?

Well it didn't make me think of a Trans-Am, but then this sort of thing is down to personal tastes, horses for courses kinda.
Having been down this road, though not exactly, the one thing I learned after being more distracted by the looks was to keep very much in mind the air flow. From 2 aspects, the main one being cooling air flow and to a lesser extent (probably) down force.

I'm sorry but if you want the front from a Cayenne or 360 Modena then go and buy one

Please don't deface your 'vette in this way
The mock-up looks like a dogs bottom to me

Sorry old chap, leave her standard

Not a chance, mate. I don't want to own a Cayenne or a 360 modena, but there are things I like about 'em that I figured I could perhaps add to my vette.

Don't like it? Please, feel free not to comment.

I've never owned a car that I've left standard. This vette is no exception.

I think your first effort is ok, that is because it isn't that different from std, the rest are
however.
perhaps you should buy a modena or cayenne cut the front off them both and stick a c5 front on, then you would have a good looking car (from the front anyway).

Hmmm... I'm not over keen on the front of the C5 - it's a bit too pointy, hence the desire to build a new front end.

I think I'll work on something based on No. 1.

Shame people are so negative about other ideas, though. My designs could have been worse. They could have looked like a C6...

I agree with you on that point, i also dont like the c6 when you look at it from the back taking into view the rear wing at the same time as such.

Not so much negative, it's just that you're taking hallmark design cues from other cars and putting them on a Vette. I would hate someone to come up to me and say "What sort of Porsche is this then?". Wouldn't you? You'd also be bound to get comments based on "Look at him trying to make his Corvette a Gallardo" and assumptions being made that that's what you wanted and couldn't afford it so you tried to make a cheaper car look like it instead. Echoes of a Pontiac Fiero wearing a Ferrari kit sort of thing.

So my concern is your spending lots of money and not achieving what you want which is something different, dramatic but also recognisably a Corvette.

The C6 front is dire and that too, suffers from the point I'm making. The lights look like a 360 Modena but badly done, the middle of the bonnet is an NSX and the back looks like an Elise. Didn't you just want it to look like a Corvette.....?

Perhaps you could do something like the TVR Sagaris?

By posting this item you have asked for people's opinions. Captain Chaos has simply given his. I'm with LuS1fer on this. My opinion is why?? For what it is going to cost surely you could find a nose (and more in the way of body kit parts) from the USA and it would stand a chance of fitting.

I do want opinions, and most (actually, especially LU51FER) have been helpful.

I get annoyed by the fact that there are some people who just want to stick with what the factory gave them. That's fine, but they really shouldn't expect everyone to do that.

It's obvious from the postings that the first pic has got the best reception. I'll do some more work on it, and see if I can sharpen it up a bit.

I wanna stand out with my custom vette. Everything else in the world has a variety of bodykits available for it, but not the vette - only one replacement bumper for sale anywhere...
