How will my F1 Lotus 72 cope with the snow???
Discussion
Always one to jump on a bandwagon.... there are a lot of threads about snow, driving in snow and how their specific car will cope with the snow outside their house..
..well, I was wondering if I had an F1 car, say a Lotus 72, how would this fair in the snow???

Well, now I know....
Anyone got any more pictures of racing in the snow??

Red Bull tried it recently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luBIaBXM4iU
As did Renault http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kP11jMJdTg&fea...
And even mclaren years ago with hakkinen in a mclaren two seater.
The normal GP soft rubber would crack like brittle plastic at these low temperatures
Combined with the low weight of the car
It's an effort just to get the thing moving.

I did my ARDS test on my 16th birthday in the snow. Thankfully, Sasha at knockhill is a kind person, my "off" at duffus should have been a fial =) In my defence, it was my first time driving an XR2i, and I couldn't really see over the dashboard. My fault for hitting a pothole in the mother's racecar and breaking a hub - that had been modified with cushions =)
Yeah I've raced in the snow before, I'll post some pictures later on, towards the end of the day the snow started to settle quite heavily and the last race of the day was cancelled. It was only in karts but never the less I managed to win all 4 of my races that ran, was some excellent slip sliding fun, as to be fast in those kind of conditions in a kart you have to be a bit agressive, and constantly test how much traction is available.

IIRC that was Ronnie Peterson, Silverstone non championship race, can't remember the year, '74 maybe? I was there, can't remember whether the snow settled on the track but a couple of inches on my car afterwards
73 International TrophyRonnie finshed 2nd (to JYS) with fastest lap

It snowed a few years ago during qualifying at the first round of the Elise Trophy at Brands:

And then snowed quite a bit more when the trucks went out...
