Not seen any threads running on chassis condition recently and noted we have some new owners in our midst so a quick reminder to everyone to check the chassis for rust. I do mine before and after the winter, normally wire brush and hammerite any new rust spots then waxoyl everything. Would not like to see any cerbs suffer the same fate as my S2 and develop a see through chassis!

Good tip.

Although the see through chassis does aid the aircon in the summer.

I´m absolutely scared about the poor chassis condition of my 6 1/2 year old cerb. It´s my third TVR and by far the worst. The powdercoat is only placebo rust prevention and it needs a body-off restoration now. The frame will get sandblasted and electrogalvanised. Can´t see, why they don´t do that right from the start?!

WHere's the best place to start checking the chassis, and do you need to start taking the car to bits to do it?

Did mine in October with Tetrosol Black Wax which I have always had good results with - recommended to me by a bodywork specialist. Caused a bit of stir with the overspray burning off the exhausts at the traffic lights afterwards!

Has anyone waxoiled the chassis tubes internally - is it needed???

First you have to watch all tube in the area of the wheel arches, which are exposed to chips and shower water. The lower wishbones are worse as well. The tubes (topside) of the door sills are vulnerable because of attached mud.

Not sure if I'm mis-understanding/being mis-understood?

On previous cars I've owned with monocoque bodyshells it is common to spray waxoyl into all the internal boxsections you can get to - eg pulling the attachment the length of the internal sill to cover it internally.

Does anyone drill the main chassis rails etc and do a similar thing spraying internally or is this not really required?
