impreza front pulley snapped?

Guys a friend of mine has a managed to snap his crank pulley bolt its on an M reg impreza WRX EJ20 engine if that means anything.
The garage that hes asked to carry out the repairs have told him they think the engine will be knackered from this happening and have offered to buy the car from him for £500.

I don't know anything about these cars but this sounds a bit fishy
Would the engine be fecked if the front pulley bolt snapped?

The other issue is the garage snapped an easy out into the stuck bolt so im going to ask a local engineer about the possibility of inserting a heli coil into a new thread.

Any opinions other than take the money

well i'd have thought with a bit of effort you'd get more than £500 breaking it and selling the bits depending on the condition of course, this is i assume what the garage would be planning to do

i suppose it depends on what was happening when the bolt snapped as to how bad damage might be? there are other folk on here that can give you a better answer on that one

TBH i cant see him messing around with braking it for parts, he told me the power steering went heavy which you would expect and it gently slowed down, nothing dramatic not even a miss fire
