Just got the Cerb back from Racing Green and I think they’ve given me a new car by mistake. The engine was already as sweet as a nut so needed nothing more than some fresh oil. However, I was having some problems with squeaky brakes and had tried all the PH remedies. As good as they were, it turnout out I had a warped disc and the wrong compound on the rear pads, so no amount of copper slip would have made any difference. Anyway now sorted with new discs and pads and I don’t feel the need to avoid braking – which is a good thing. They also balanced the wheels on their new machine – and what a difference, the drive feels very solid and so positive. So a great day on Saturday, with a lovely run down to Goodwood to sort out the Revival tickets (don’t tell my wife you can order by phone) and caught up with a track day in progress. Haven’t quite decided whether to give it a go on the track or not (in any case if I do, I need to change insurance company) but as I was there I got the db reading - what is the road noise limit and how effective are these tail-end boxes you can apply for track days to get below their various limits?

Any comments on the db question. Like to know what's legal before I post the results from my Goodwood test

Noise limits generally vary by circuit - I know that Goodwood is particularly strict at 98db for some days (due to local council agreement or something), 105db for others.

Others vary between 101db and 105db - which is no help at all if you have a Cerb with sports pipes - my 4.5 was measured at 109db at Goodwood a month or so ago (although I'm sure the guy measuring was a bit over zealous with his probe - virtually had it stuck inside the tail pipe! Aren't they supposed to take the measurement 50cm from the rear of the car?). Guess it would be even worse with a de-cat...

think the ACT mufflers take off about 5db, but don't quote me on that...

Cheers

Thanks Beemer, mine got measured at 108 db, so may be the ACT mufflers will do enough to get under the 105 limit, at least. I would love to have a go at Goodwood as it is such a great track.
