Hi i just changed thee battery on my mk5 rs2000.It was turning over but as it was about to start it started makeing a buzzing spinning sound and stoped turning over. what could this be??

Could be that the gear that drives the flywheel disengages while starting. Perhaps cleaning/checking the contacts/solinoid could do the trick.

What prompted you to change the battery in the first place? What problems were you getting, maybe the starter motor is the actual initial problem and not your battery..

I took the starter off so the car wasnt stolen as it was parked in a garage away from my house.When I re connected it the battery was dead so i brought a new one.The car started turning over but as it fired it cut out.

Check the connections to the starter, it sounds like the starter isn't getting enough power.

I cannot help thinking that as the problem has occurred since refitting the starter, and it sounds like the starter is not engaging properly, that it may not be correctly fitted.
I am not familier with the RS, but what is access like? Are you sure that it is refiited correctly and everything is tight?
I would take out the starter, check it looks visualy OK (get it tested if in doubt), replace it and try again.

thanks for the advise the problem is now sorted.i wire brushed the connections and that fixed it.
