Ahh im rather familiar with that pic, no doubt its from the rather pricey swiss outfit that is sportec.

err so am I being blind & missing the fan ducts for intercooler cooling then???

Just unusual to note the distinct lack of large fans supplying cool air to the rear of the car- i.e where the intercooler & engine are, inlet temps through the roof = a lot less power.

Well spotted! Forgot it had the engine in the back!!

But then again, isn't the front fan just providing the air that would come towards the car when its being driven. Therefore the air from the fan would travel over the car and into the vents above the engine as per a normal drive....

Walloping big fan at the front. I assume to simulate 'real' conditions where you don't drag a set of intercooler fans around with you.

..And is in fact much more useful than most other configs. Aircooled turbos' intercoolers are a bitch to get airflow over. You can get flexible tubes that hang down from the roof, and seal over the intercooler. However, that gives an even more unrealistic flow, although less chance of detonation... For most power runs it doesn't make much difference solong as you have a conditioned dyno room. However, wouldn't fancy trying to map my car like that. You'd end up taking your pistons home in a cup...

Yip fine and dandy as long as the airflow is at a similar speed to what the airspeeds would be in the real word when the car is run as it is on the rollers i.e running flat out in one gear down from top, care to hazard a guess quite how nippy that is in a GT2.... and considering most dyno fans don't run at more than 30 or so mph its not quite gunna work the same.

Due to the location of the intercooler, like right on top of the engine, 911T's suffer from bad heat soak issues into the intercooler, basically- the higher the inlet temps- the less power.

This is why when you are talking seriously tuned engines, the intercooler will often have an mesh tray placed on top full of dry ice & then a cooling duct forcing the air through it to try & combat the heat soak issues & achive cool inlet temps.

Clearly any competant operator of a rolling road will know at which intake temperatures the ignition advance/retard curve will move to ensure a sensible power reading.

The photo is more for effect than an actual view of an accurate dyno reading.
With that additional wing on top of the Gt2 wing it would make an overhead air supply difficult to position with the car stationary.

Nah you would have the engine lid up anyway for max cooling effect of the cooling fans ducts onto intercooler.

Yeh hotmail being its normal pain in arse, e-mail reply just sent.
