Yet another example of ITV's total inability to try anything innovative or new with their programmes. Could have been a great documentary about the refurb & relaunch, instead ITV tried to focus on the whacky 'characters', impending will they wont they deadlines and supposed pressure.

I watched the first ep and lost interest half way through when they glossed over for the 3rd time that there had been a 12 month delay in the refurb - why? What happened?

Typical ITV, dreadful.

Best bit was Prince Zowee of Persia (or whatever he was) floating around in a Gestapo coat, booking entire West End cimemas and wandering the streets at 5 in the morning because he never changes his clock to local time!

Yup, saw this briefly a couple of weeks ago and thought the same thing. The commentary regarding the butling staff was a little odd, something along the lines of....
"Of the Savoy's thirteen new butlers, only two have any previous hospitality qualifications"
and
"To train to be a professional butler usually takes a year. The Savoy have six weeks".

Quality service there then.

I actually thought it was quite interesting.

The first part, last week, covered the re-furb but not in any great detail - which was disappointing - but I found the characters interesting and the owner fascinating:

Own private 747? Cool

Fleet of Mercs, Bentleys travelling around after you, just in case you need them? Cool

Not adjusting your body clock no matter where you go because you're so minted? Cool

Buying out an entire cinema? Cool

The best part of the entire programme though, was the Butlers' opine on what they'd do if a guest complained that the p0rn on the hotel TV wasn't hardcore enough:

"We'd go to Soho and try to find them something harder. Naturally, we'd ask them what sort they'd want first"

I was then imagining a guest calling their butler and saying

"You know what, Babes at Midnight isn't really hardcore enough for me. Could you nip out to Soho and get me something harder with fatties in it please? Ta"

hehe

I thought he turned up at the hotel in a coach ?

Having to have his room at a constant 17.5 Degrees and getting the tiny red light on the phone covered up because he cannot sleep unless it is totally dark - Un-Cool.

The Princess looked a bit of a dirty sort wouldn’t have minded road testing that 4 poster bed with her.

As for the short ghey drama queen head butler with the bulgy eyes, if I wanted to watch an annoying screechy Irish man on TV I would have put Graham Norton on.

Indeed. Mrs P's cousin's husband was the Project Manager apparently. Think he also did the Liberty refurb as well. Will try and find out why it was delayed for so long.

I'd imagine the structure of the building wouldn't take what the new plans required of it. Hence, masses of steel going in. Mind, am only guessing and, would be interesting to hear from the horses mouth, so to speak. smile

Have you seen the price of steel lately? biggrin

Personally, I think the overspend is due to them not taking into account the congestion charge when doing their sums. anotherbiggrin
