Hi all, another concern has reared its head for the Alfa, hopefully nothing major but I felt it was best to ask.

On cold start up recently, there's been a whining noise from the engine at idle for 10-15 seconds before dying away. I popped the bonnet this evening before I fired her up, and went round to have a listen. It seems to be coming from the belt area (I think). Belts, tensioners, water pump etc were all changed 8k ago, and it has only started doing it in the last week or so. Has anyone had a similar issue I wonder; the engine is the 2.5 V6.

Cheers all.

Did you have the aux belt and tensioner done with the cambelt? These can suffer at this time of year if you have no undertray with all the salt and crap that can be thrown up. Mine made a bit of noise at this time of year despite cambelt/waterpump etc changed and i had no undertray.

As far as I'm aware, this was done yes, though to be 110% sure I'd have to ring the specialist. It's not done it over the last couple of mornings actually, maybe it's just the severe cold we've all been suffering with recently.

a quick blast of WD40 on the aux belt tensioner will be the first test for me - they are known to get dry in bad weather due to salt spray.

my 2.5 V6 always sounds the same, hot or cold, winter or summer. in fact, mechanically its one of the quietest cars I have ever owned.
