I see that GW has manifested itself as a blizzard, locking Europe down in a mini ice age. smile I know I am committing a grand offense bad mouthing the one true faith as prophesied by the high Priest of the Order of Gore; however, I am puzzled and seek guidance to mitigate my confusion. wink I believe 2010 has not been a good year for the GW diciples. smile

They've re-branded it 'climate change' for that very reason, and no matter what it does, it'll be because of our choice of car.

Actually it is "Man Made Climate Change". "Climate Change" has been deemed obsolete as there is no way to tax nature.

Yep, you're confusing weather with climate.

I'm happy to know the MMGW as much as the next PHer - however, it appears that what we're seeing is an anomoly while the rest of the world is heating up (some recent NASA data is quite scary).

However, to use this cooling down as evidence of MMGW is just nuts

For some reason they never seem to remember the lack of sunspots as important...

Meanwhile, back in the real world, there are reports of unseasonally low temperatures all around the globe from the UK to Dubai (12degC) to China (traffic chaos) to Australia (Fecking snow in summer)...

NASA data has been 'quite scary' in it's proven innacuracies.

The average temperatures are still rising.

Like last year, Europe is experiencing unusual weather due to the activity of the North Atlantic Jet. The unusual shape and position of this jet stream is bringing colder air down from the North and is thought to be due to sun spots.

Strange that even the Met Office have released figures showing no rise in statistically significant temperatures for the last 15 years...

The Kiwi's have just shown that there has been no temperature rise there for a very long time... http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/SC1012/S00054/clima...

And from the longest temp data set in the world, the Central England CET shows warming? Well, no actually: http://notrickszone.com/2010/11/28/lesson-learned-...

Temps should be rising, we're still emerging from an ice-age, but they are rising in line with expected trends and no effect by man.

Unless you can prove otherwise of course?

Amount of snow is more to do with moisture content than cold wink

Why try to confuse a belief system based on faith with facts?

It's simples.
What goes around, comes around.

If you are old enough to remember 1947 or (like me) 1962, you'll have seen all this before.
It's the weather! It (climate) changes.

New Year Resolution.
Let's put all climate freaks on their own special island (preferably one on Mars).

Monbiot was on LBC this morning explaining that (if I get it right, I was half asleep and trying to figure out which nazi was speaking):
Previously we had a pressure difference between the Azores high and Greenland(Alaska? Can't remember) low and this meant winters were typically wet and windy rather than cold because of a channel (of pressure difference? I forget) that was created that drew up the crappy weather from somewhere. Now that the North Pole is heating up, there's a higher pressure above the North Pole which means that this channel no longer exists so we have colder weather.
1) Can anyone confirm these are the arguments the Nazis are presenting?
2) Are these true?

Just watch the ducking and diving that starts now. There are wobbles everywhere as the numbers are coming in.

The facts don't meet the scare stories and they will eventually have to give up the game, but not before some of them get VERY rich.

Just a thought, when I was at school we had snow every year and sometimes it was quite heavy. Obviously the climate is constantly in flux so maybe the last ten (pre 2009) or so years have been the unusual ones and we are now just reverting back to our normal weather pattern with easily defined seasons again.

Jetstream is blowing our air a bit further north, fk all to do with any MMGW.

One of the fundamental issues witht eh NASA projection, on top of teh large areas where they make up the data (i.e. guess) and other issues with the sensing records... The projection chosen currently makes it look as though the areas above average are huge. This is an artifact of the projection chosen (deliberately?) and hte areas above average are small.

Also, the scale of temps above and below average are skewed.

All makes perfect sense.... rolleyes but begs the question why their computer models didn't predict the colder weather then, rather than the milder wet winters that they did? scratchchin

I think that depends on what data you use
