Slightly strange R35 question...
Discussion
I am thinking about an R35. But, this is the big but, I have a dog. (no not the wife LOL).
So, I have had a look around on the net and I was thinking about removing the rear seats and having some MDF and carpet put in the back for the dog.
Quesions:
1) Anyone removed the rear seats? Any pics?
2) How far do the front seats fold forward? Enough of an angle to allow a dog to jump in?
3) Does the rear bulkhead come out? This way could load the dog via the boot! Would also allow me to put a proper dog guard in should I have a crash will stop the dog coming forward.
Thanks!

wow i just hope you re-read your post after you have sobered up and realise how stupid alcohol makes you!If you were sober at the time of writing, i hope the men in white coats get you before you harm someone/thing......
Err LOL. You have a point Sir, but no I was not drunk and yes the men in white coats have been and gone - they said there is nothing they can do for me, its gone beyond help.
Back OT. My dogs currently ride in the back of my 997. They love it. But, TBH we also have a range rover for longer trips. I am lucky in that I work only a couple of miles from home and the dogs come to work with me.
This was all fine, but we just got a new dog, and there is no way she will fit in the porsche. So, looking for something bigger. Was thinking of the R35 as it looks quite easy (I hope) to make the rear seats into a dog cage type area.
If anyone has had the rear seats out I would be happy to hear from you.
HTH!
I honestly wouldn't put a dog in the back of a GTR on a regular basis - especially if you already own a Range Rover.
Taking out rear seats and fitting a dog cage!
No way - the car isn't designed for that sort of thing at all. You may end up damaging it, plus inbetween the rear seats are speakers, so you'll end up fiddling about with them too (you'll do more harm than good).
What about an Audi RS4 Estate? Still a lot of poke and can happily fit dogs in.

If you want to ruin the back of a GTR, you either has a stupid amount of money and / or absolutely no sense at all. DON'T DO IT!

My 997S carries 2 dogs easily, not ruined it as yet. From looking at pics of the various race cars it seems that once the rear seats are out there is quite a lot of space to play with... will have to go and have a look at one. Just for clarification, there would only be one dog in the car - the other 2 older dogs would come to work with my wife.
It's always worrying when I see people treating or behaving like dogs are people:
1. Basing car purchases around dogs
2. Choosing a profession or position where the dogs can be involved (or kept at work)
3. Dogs have their own winter coats for when it gets cold
4. Owner seems to think that dogs really enjoy certain cars over others
5. Dogs have human emotions.
6. dogs=children?
Each to their own though......

The seats are just really thin padding. Removing them won't free up any space at all.
Plus the centre console divides the space into quite a small volume and covers the transmission tunnel.
Front seats motor forward to allow access, but it takes ages and won't be easy for a dog. Once the dog is back there, he/she better not be claustrophobic because the high windows will mean it is quite dark and enclosed.

To the OP, I get where you're coming from, I think.
From the sounds of it and looking at the pictures, removing the seats won't give you a great deal more room as they sound quite thinly padded. Given the MDF won't mould neatly to the underlying space, I expect going down that route will also lose you more space rather than just leaving the seats as they are.
Lastly, it also looks like the transmission tunnel intrudes quite heavily into the space also. Unless all that stuff is just plastic covering, its going to be nigh on impossible to make somehting flat over the whole back shelf without sacrificing almost all the rear headroom, which means the dog is going to be forced to ride around lying down all the time.
I'd see if he's happy simply riding in it as is. You can always have the rear seats retrimmed if needs be later on. As for protection, you may be able to get away with securing some netting between the two front seats in case of emergency.

I have been looking into it a bit more. The tranny tunnel is about 6 inches below the plastic trim level you see on the pic above. There is also a lot of trim and stuff under the seats which when removed gives quite a bit of room.
Its not the room I am after TBH, there is enough already, but I want it to look tidy. I think with the trim and seats removed, the 2 "holes" below the seats capped off with MDF and carpeted out by a pro it would look quite reasonable, which is all I am after, and there would be plenty of room for the dogs.

I'd have thought so before getting my GSD, but now, willing or not (unless you don't love animals and just got a dog for a laugh), a lot of my and my wife's life has to include a choice for the dog.1. Basing car purchases around dogs

House, holidays, car, what to do over a weekend etc are all things to consider with the dog in mind, as he is now part of the family. And no I'm not one of those people who let their dog on the sofa/bed etc.
