Car parts back from the US
Discussion
I need to take 110kg of parts back to the UK with me from the US. FedEx are quoting me $1400 - no! So I'm thinking I'm going to try and take it on the plane as luggage, paying the extra for 4 over-sized bags (not cheap but less than $1400!). Has anyone any experience of doing this sort of thing? Cheers.

I'm guessing you'd be fine but leave in plenty of time and be prepared to unpack and explain it. The bloke sat at the x-ray scanner will be pulling some pretty weird faces I'd imagineI think you should look a lot deeper in to this rather than trying to take it on a plane with you. I was recently quoted £5000 to transport a 20ft container to the US and that could have had anything in it. Try some of the local international removers over here and you might be surprised at what they quote you.
Got the heavy bits (clutch and drive shafts) into my luggage at no extra cost (2 x 70lb bags and carry on). Both heavy bags got checked by the TSA but no damage done to the bits.
The rest (another 2 x 70lbs) was sent with USPS and should be with me in the New Year. I'm not going to say yet that it was the most cost-effective way of getting the stuff sent since a lot of it's not in my possession yet!

Hey, Viperpict
Next time try "ronfenton" on the Mustang forum (www.S197.co.uk) He is a shipping agent and a lot of the Mustang guys use him.
I believe you order stuff, get it sent ot his place in Florida then he brings it over. Lots of decent comments abbout him.

Cheers, I may well do that! I got the stuff that I put in luggage fine and one of the large boxes I mailed has arrived. The other box is not here yet though but I know it arrived in the UK OK.Next time try "ronfenton" on the Mustang forum (www.S197.co.uk) He is a shipping agent and a lot of the Mustang guys use him.
