Just following on from the big winter tyres debate, I know that they are mandatory in Sweden during certain months (December thru March).

According to my Uncle (lives over there), you do skid pan training as part of getting a licence.
Seeing as our 'skid' training consists of perhaps one question on the theory test, does anyone else think we are missing out by not having this in our test? Especially given the amount of offs we see in winter months!

Great idea

1 downside

In isolated areas of the UK we don't have any skidpans

Like making motorways part of the test great idea but there are no motorways north of perth in scotland. And no 3 lane motorways north of Edinburgh

I'm sure I read somewhere that the training made new drivers over confident and so led to more accidents.

it's a requirement to learn for a year IIRC with a 'logbook' of your lessons to prove you have been learning in that time, to ensure everyone has experience of winter and summer driving. And yes, I believe they have a spid pad 'module' in which they have to show to control loss of grip from front and rear axles.

I think that would probably be the best module on the course!

And they have to do a medical too, seems like they take the business of getting a licence very seriously!
