I currently own a lovely ex Hexagon (ie overpriced!) 2001 carbon black E39 M5. It is in fantastic condition and has been serviced by BMW throughout its life so selling it will be a brave decision. Am I mad to consider replacing with a TVR Cerbera?

I also run an R500 caterham (sunny summer days) and 330d (wifes car but I steal it in the winter). The cerb will get used most days in the summer for work.

No, Cerberas are fantastic. Everyone should own one at least for a while..

No

The men in white coats don't need to come quite yet!

I ran an E39 M5 for two years and sold it because I was bored. I never got bored of the cerbera although it drove me nearly mad. If I hadn't written it off I would still have it as my everyday car. My tuscan is also laugh out loud enjoyable as a daily driver. If you have petrol in your veins you have to do it although you may have to sell a few relatives for medical experiments to keep it on the road.

I'd say you have a great combo with the Caterham and M5 at the moment...the Cerbera will be a lot of fun but to use it regularly for work ? Not so sure. Depends how much you want/have to rely on it.

I got bored with my M5 (after a couple of years)it did everything really well but just lacks something due to its size and refinment.

Nothing very controversial about admitting to boredom with cars; which of us hasn't changed cars for no other reason? The M5 may be the special car for some - for me it's the TVR. Chacun a son gout.

Still undecided. Even the misses is keen but she probably doesn't know that cerbs are a little bit naughty to drive in the event that I steal her car for the day.

Mine was and I'd never buy another again - his quote sums up my thinking perfectly! It was a humble TVR S Series but it still cost me around £7,000 in six months and I only managed to sell it for the same price that I bought it for even after all that work. Horrid little thing. I reckon in my one year of ownership I had about five weeks when something wasn't broken and I was able to drive it because it wasn't in the garage.

Never driven a Cerb but I've read enough about them to stay well clear unless you own a couple of diamond mines... as with anything though, if you've got the dosh and are prepared for the hassle of having it off the road then go for it. For me, I'd be very happy with the set-up you've got already but I can understand your wish to move on to other things.

Have you got a budget in mind that you might want to share with us?
