I've been thinking about changing my car (2006 Boxster) for damn near a year. I've had it since new, I like it, but after 4 years I simply fancy a change.

The problem is there is nothing out there that I like without spending stupid money - simply put I want brand new, I don't want to spend more than about £30k.

The only thing I've seen this year that I even vaguely like is the Audi A1 S-Tronic. Once you've all stopped laughing, it fits most of my criteria in that it's small, decent looking (subjective), has a very well built interior, and has better MPG than the Boxster.

Is there anything on the horizon that I might want to look at?

I've posted some months back on this subject and someone always suggests a Maserati 4200 or a Merc 600SL - not interested thanks.

RS3/1M if you could stretch to them, but both would run near £40k I think.

If you want brand new then fair enough but you can't even get a golf for 30k these days lol

The exciting bit might be hard for that budget, if you're willing consider some older stuff then the excitement factor will rise by about 1000000%

What about a Caterham?

Maybe over £40k and not 2011

I guess exciting was the wrong word to use, perhaps just "new and decent" as I'd like to think I'm aware of pretty much everything out there right now and nothing floats my boat.

The new shape boxster looks really good?

I've only seen it in need for speed though!

There's supposed to be a new A3 out at some point. I did come very close to buying an S3 a few months back, but the knowledge of the new model plus £33k or so put me off.

Oh and I do have a bit of a thing for the more "utility" type 4x4's such as Shogun's or Defenders - I like SWB as I think they look better and I don't need more than 2 or 3 doors.

Went in a shogun the other day and was very impressed from the passenger seat, plus if it snows you're laughing.

Car Magazine have just raved about the new Citroen DS3 developed by their racing dept - would that fit the bill? (as a Trphy did for mr when coming out of a 996 for similar reasons previously)

Of course I'd forgotten about the six hundred quid a year potential road tax on a new 4x4.

That's show the total indecision I have, on one hand I'm looking at A1's with 5 years servicing for £200, on the other I'm looking at bloody Toyota Landcruisers.

90 Station Wagon it is then! smile

Don't worry, you soon get used to driving everywhere with the window down and your body soon adapts to the driving position. There's very little else you could buy for that money that will depreciate slower.

Had that idea last year. I went to look at quite a few and did toy with a new one, and whilst they look cool as fk, just can't see myself doing 12-15k a year in one day in day out.

If they made one that looked like a Defender but with a decent interior, but they don't.

The new range rover evoque is out in September. It will start at £33000 and has 3 or 5 dr option.
Ideal car. And it looks fantastic in the flesh. The interior really dates all the other lr products.

Yeah I have been looking at their website this morning. September is a long way off though plus I expect there will be lead times - an Audi A1 is apparently 4 months from ordering (I waited 6 months for the Boxster from ordering).

Used a 90 V8 CSW as a daily driver for three years doing 25k pa plus trips to Italy and North Africa. Probably not for you if your priority is posing and a posh dash! biggrin
