Anyone else finding their mpg has died off pretty bad since it dipped to the -10s?

Diesel must be like treacle at the moment! Although with it picking up to between zero and -6 today noticed a marked improvement on my Dunfermline - Edinburgh - Glasgow run!

Merry Christmas everyone.

Suddenly I dont feel so bad about 45-50mpg!

Wonder if preheating technology would help - a colleague in work is still running his Merc on a high chunk of veg oil with a heated fuel system.

Getting low to mid 30s in the bucket. Low temps and the FBH running constantly is knocking it down a bit.

mines is better but its because instead of boosting it home at 80-90 im stuck at 50-60. 600 miles to a tank instead of 550.

Yep, wife has been very busy double shifting in and around Perth as a carer. 06:30 starts and not back till 10.
Even she commented that the mpg has gone for the worse, and bearing in mind her stop/start work with the engine cooling in between I think it's down in the low 40's/ high 30's at present........

Yeah mine is really poor. Getting low 30s at the moment, usually getting low to mid 40s.

Yup, When I was running diesel I noticed that, but then again, I've noticed that Diesel engines in general show a more marked difference in fuel consumption when it is called upon to do more work.

Double whammy as not only are we poor diesel drivers getting less mpg but the buggers take a lot longer to get heat out of the heater.

ETA Oh and crikey Moses, look at the price of the frothy pink stuff once vat goes up it'll be over £1.30 / litre yikes

yep when you get up at 0545 and it's -10/-14C there ain't much option but to let it run for 10-15 mins (private drive)to try and get some heat into the block.

It won't reach running temp at tickover no matter how long you wait.

Very correct Will, I've had a confused back seat passenger wonder why the temp on my car settled down a bit sat in traffic as opposed to hauling 4 bums along the M9 at 70!

YES I READ THAT BUT IT WILL STILL HEAT UP QUICKER IF YOU DRIVE IT (UNLESS YOU WERE DEFROSTING IT).
