I'm looking at buying a Mazda Roadster, which was imported in August 2000. I have a photocopy of the V5 and the car was registered as a G plate (1989/90) and has a Japanese VIN number.

However, I'm trying to work out the year of the car so I can start doing some insurance quotes, but struggling with that bit. I found a website that looked like it would give me info, but there was no data for the VIN number I've got.

I was hoping some of you who've been through the import business might have some tips so I can get going with this. biggrin

Don`t waste your time trying for online comparison quotes for an import Roadster as many companies won`t touch them.

Phone the specialists.

Richard Egger, Adrian Flux, A-Plan, Sky, Footman James & probably a few others someone else will recommend.

Year Production

1989 45,266
1990 95,640

Chances are it's a 1990, I often find that many websites wont acknowledge that 1989 models even exist. Perhaps someone in insurance can clarify if it actually would matter, my gut feeling is it wouldn't cause an issue.

Well, when I was looking at quotes for this one before I found out it was an import, because it's a g reg, it's 89/90, and insurance companys didn't list any for 1989.

Hopefully next week I can get on the blower to some more specialist companys and try and get a quote.
