Neutrik Speakon Connector.
Discussion
Hi Guys and Girls.
Firstly, happy Christmas, and secondly, talk to me about subwoofer connections.
I got a subwoofer for Christmas you see and It comes with a choice of connections - dedicated sub output (Phono) or a Neutrik Speakon plug connection. What is the best connection to use, and if I use the Neutrik, will the auto Audyssey setup detect that comes with the sub detect the subwoofer being there, or does it not matter as the sub will get it's inputs from the front speakers?
I'm connecting the sub as part of a 5.1 setup using a Denon 1910 amp.
David

Hi,
I use the Neutrik Speakon connectors in the car, they are very good, but i can't see why you'd want to use one with an active sub, besides the neat clip-in connection.
I expect your system will detect the amp regardless. I'd stick with a phono personally unless you have something more interesting in mind?

I don't have anything interesting in mind as I don't totally understand the differences, pros and cons of the two different connections.I use the Neutrik Speakon connectors in the car, they are very good, but i can't see why you'd want to use one with an active sub, besides the neat clip-in connection.

I just want to know why I should use what one. If only I wasn't given the choice!

Speakon connectors are only used for 'high level' signal - as in the output from an amplifier or the input on a speaker.
It's sounds like you have an active sub (amp built in) so the speakon is probably an output to drive an additional passive sub from the amp in the first sub (so, in your setup, you wouldn't use the speakon - but it is a very nice feature to have for future expansion).
