Evening all!!!

I've had a search around on here but it didn't bring a great deal up to be honest.

I'm after a camera to use for Track Days and the odd spirited blast out. It's to be a birthday present for myself from my missus and she's got £75 to play with or put towards one if there's an outstanding one around for decent money. It doesn't have to be 3D HD LCD Super Plasma Dolby 20:1, as realistically it's going to be used around 10 times a year. Bascially, I want the best quality camera I can get my hands on for the smallest outlay.

Bit clueless on this front and don't even know where to start looking if I'm completely honest so any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Will

the gopro's seam to get good reviews and the non hd one can be had for £70 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-Hero-Sports-Wrist-...

having said that I'm sure you'd end up spending almost as much again on all of the mountings and attachments to mount in the car.

This is the one I'll be buying and looks the best value for money out of all the cameras I've seen.

http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/minidvr3-bullet-camer...

The 3 main things I want... and this has..

1. It's a bullet cam, no mounting a big daft camera on the car hoping it doesn't fall off. Small and barely noticeable.

2. It has a remote microphone so you can place it wherever you want, this is vital really as wind noise completely ruins any trackday/blat video.

3. The bullet cam and mic plug into a small recorder which will take an SD card of anything up to 32GB, and it has a cig lighter so you can power it permenantly from inside the car. With the permanent power and 32GB you're never going to run out of power or memory space. Let's face it, once you've done one day you take the files off and wipe the card clean again. Theres no chance of running out of battery or using 32GB in a day.

It also has a start stop button for the recorder which you strap on your wrist for when you're about to drop a cog and muller someone wink

It's not HD, but like you, I don't feel I need HD. I think it's a steal at £200 personally, If I was you I'd get a proper kit and add £125 of your own cash to her prezzie money. Let's face it, if you buy the wrong one you're only going to end up wanting a better setup and her £75 will have been wasted.

My 2p anyway smile

P.S (I don't work for dogcam or anything, it's just the best I could find in my budget)

smile

Edit:

They also still sell their model previous which is a bit closer to the budget.. http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/mini-dvr-2-helmet-cam...

I have achieved consistently good results with a veho muvi. I bought mine about 8 months ago from Tesco for £39 in the sports kit which consists of straps and brackets to mount the camera to a bike or helmet.

I mounted one of the brackets to my roll bar using tie wraps and it give perfect shots between the driver and passenger. I will be buying another so i can mount one outside the car fo passing (or in my case being passed) shots.

Downside is 2 hrs battery life, rechargeable vis pc or i think there is an external charger now and hit and miss aiming as there is no ability to add a view finder. Other than that when you get the position right it works beautifully and is cheap enough to lose or damage.

I've been looking at that one on Amazon!!!

Seems like a neat little gadget and from what I can find on You Tube, picture quality looks fair too.

That looks like a great bit of kit for the money!!!

I've ended up going for a Kodak Zi8... Although HD wasn't originally a ''must'', after seeing the prices of some of the camcorders on Amazon in the sale it made sense to go that route. I've managed to find some You Tube clips shot on a Zi8 and the quality looks superb, the only problem I now have is sourcing a suitable mount so I'll be off to Jessops in the next few weeks to have anosey around. Thank you everyone for your recommendations, I'll post a vid up as soon as I'm allowed to unwrap the damn thing!!! smile

Not all TDOs will allow screen mounted cameras.
