I intend to get my R1 Fury to some trackdays but I think it'll be too loud. Previous owner said it was around 107db!

I thought I would have to fit an airbox, but I don't really have enough room under the bonnet and no chance am I ruining my front clam by cutting a hole out of it. I've just been watching some trackday videos on youtube and there's plenty with the foam filter stuck out of the bonnet, at least mines under the bonnet! So I'm thinking I may need to concentrate on shutting the exhaust up more instead.

It already has a pretty big silencer on, well, compared to a bike can anyway. Something similar to this..

Wondered if there are any slip on silencers that can go over the exhaust tip to shut it up a bit? Of course I'll be repacking it and checking the manifold isnt blowing from anywhere too.

Another slight issue too, there is no cat in my system... how do other BEC owners get through MOT? I think it just about scraped through the last time with a 'MOT map' on the power commander. I'd like to know it's going to pass rather than hoping to scrape through it.

107db is very loud. At what revs, distance and angle? I'd check all that before spending money!

Mine passes sound tests at around 98db (9,000rpm, 1metre at 45° from exit pipe). If you're intending on doing a lot of track days, might be worth getting a system made by someone (mine's a Longlife one).

ps. Was it my vid you were watching?

Edited for linky.

Mmm I've no idea on those variables, I guess I should invest in a db meter.

Or pop along to your nearest track when they have a track day as a spectator ang get tested. (I normally get noise tested before signing on).

Yazza, 99% sure your car is not 107db.

My 5pw r1 Indy was 107.5 db tested at brands. Didn't make it in track until seven indulgence (local 7 company) repacked my stty carbon micron can and shoved some old roll cage tubing inside with spouts to kill the noise travel. I then got retested in the afternoon and squeezed on at 105!

Fir the cost in buying a supertrapp, I would ensure you can is repacked (not too tighly mind) and look at a airbox. Can get enclosed pupercross sausage ones which may be where s lit of your induction roar comes from.

Investments like these soon pay for themselves as you only need to have got chucked off one trackday to reap the rewards

You used to be able to get inserts for bike race cans that made them road legal in terms of noise level. Might be worth looking for one as they used to be about £20 new, that and get your can repacked.

Have a good look for cracks in the manifolds and piping. A cracked pipe will have a noticeable effect on the exhaust volume, even if it is only one cylinder.

107.5dB seems unlikely if the car is road legal. IVA max is 99dB and race super bikes are only 104dB (FIM rules).

I've looked at the Pipercross one, which would fit directly on my backplate as I already have the 600 filter fitted. I still think it'll be too tall though. The filter is about 65mm tall and the airbox is 78mm tall. If that doesn't fit then there no way I'll get a std one under there like I was hoping to initially, either.

I'll buy a DB meter and modify it from there once I've actually taken a reading.

For anyone in the same boat.... I just tried to buy a DB meter off CBS, but for some reason I couldn't checkout to pay. I'm glad of this because I've just found the same meter on ebay for £16 delivered. It was £30 delivered on CBS.

I've been through the same thing lately with my Megabusa - got it down from around 110db to 102db.

Did a few things - firstly fitted an airbox - knocked it down to around 106db, then got a custom exhaust made from a local fabricator - was cheaper than anything you could buy online and quieter, which brought it down to around 103db.

Finally I lined the inside of the bonnet with some sound insulating material which cost very little and brought it down another 1db.

Have since been on track at silverstone and oulton with no issues.
