With the advent of a sunny day I thought I would have a quick pint on the way back from work. Any ideas of a good pub by a river with somewhere to sit outside to sup a pint.

Somewhere east of York and I'll gather a posse of NE folk to join you.

Don't know where you are heading home to, but there are a few pubs by the river in Tadcaster, one is near the Michelin starred cuisine purveyor called 'Tadkebab'

I have just been recommended the Ferry Inn at Thorganby by one of the guys at work. Apparently its at the end of Ferry Lane - I will be going exploring about 17:00 - I will let you know what its like.

Location here www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=470000.207417213&Y=442500.481611667&width=700&height=400&client=public&gride=469157.207417213&gridn=442230.481611667&srec=0&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&scale=50000&in.x=4&in.y=7

The pub is not the one by the circle but a bit north by the river

Like Mod says, give us a clue where you're heading to from York.

Acaster Malbis about 5 miles West of York just off A64 (i think) has a nice pub and it's right by the river, lovely little village too

I work on the Poppleton Road @ Holgate in York but don't mind doing a few miles to have a beer. With the sun shining yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to go for a relaxing drive and a quiet beer.

The Ferry Inn was closed when I got there but looks promising. I will have to return at the weekend.

One of my neighbours has suggested the Dawney Inn at Newton upon Ouse so I will take a trundle that way when the sun shines again.

Any other possibilies gratefully received.

Theres a pub in Naburn by the Ouse although I can't for the life of me remember the name and its years since I went there last so it could be rubbish! But its worth a drive out for fun. You could also try the ferry in Cawood (although the Ouse is tidal & murky there so you won't really want to look at it!).

If you want to go a bit further afield there's probably one in Boroughbridge?

Yes Boroughbridge is good. Keep moving east so I don't have so far to travel.

there's a rather nice samuel smith pub on the banks of the ouse in the centre of york...can't remember it's name but it has tasty barmaids and is down the steps from the pitcher...damn my inebriation!
