My central heating chucked it on Christmas Eve - bearings in a fan inside the boiler have packed in, so it's been a fun couple of days so far.weeping

Anyway, repair company can't get a part for a few days so i'm looking at getting a couple of small heaters to see us through.

Ideally i'd like something which doesn't have the little disc in the electricity meter spinning at 10,000 rpm but will give good heat and can be used eventually to keep my garage warm-ish (when I get one).

Seen a couple of little fan heaters and those oil-filled radiators but don't know if they are any good.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Oil filled radiators are your best bet, I use one in the garage all the time, even when its turned up full pelt the meter doesn't go mad.

When we had the living room decorated last year I used the oil filled radiator in there and it was as warm as toast in there.

If your central heating is dead, I suspect You'll need more than a fan heater if the weather stays cold.

Calor Gas heater gives out more heat and is probably cheaper to run in the long run.

Something like this and a 15kg bottle of butane.

The Electric board will tell you how much heaters (you tell them what size) cost to run per hour, having looked into this i can tell you oil filled rads are not cheap. Worth checking before you buy.

Go for a "dry heat" so electric oil fired radiator, which Aldi had a great offer on recently, so check their local store to you;

Thanks for all the replies.

Ended up getting a little ceramic heater and a oil filled radiator from Tesco.

Got them both on just now and already nice and warm in the living room. Will move the radiator to our bedroom later as it's quiet when it's on so won't keep us awake.

Thanks again.
