Hi Chaps

Anyone else at Silverstone on Sunday last ?

Very odd decision by the clerk to cancel the event because of rain - I think everyone had raced in far worse conditions but no drivers were consultated (as far as I know)

Brands had pretty bad weather and they continued to run their events. And lets face it, I'd rather have an off at Silverstone than on the Brands GP circuit.

Just wondered if anyone else thought it was odd ?

I am racing in the lemansmotorsport euro saloons series and we were running as an invited race by the BRDC on some beetle endurance race I think.

The CoC on Sunday delayed his decision for over 90 minutes, while the pit straight seemed clear, over the back of the circuit, at Ireland iirc, the track was flooded enough that although the apexes of the corners were "OK", the standing water was sitting at the turn in points.

There were consultations with the F3 drivers. In the end the CoC has everyones safety at heart, from the drivers to the marshals, who while going out to attend an incident is exposed to someone going off in the same place.

In the end the correct decision was made

We were sat at Woodcote and watched the course car go round the complex a couple of times, and from the amount of water being chucked up it was the right decision to make.

I've raced in very wet conditions too (and a blizzard!), but I wouldn't have been happy racing on Sunday.

Hi

I think it was a bit political to be honest

I surprised that they didn't run the F3's behind a pace car for half a dozen laps and see what the track was like then. We were just left in the dark abit.

The only time I've known an event to be cancelled due to rain was at Snett about 8 years ago - but the bomb hole was literally under several feet of water !

I'm not so sure - it looked very wet from where I was sitting, and there was lots of standing water on the apex of at least one corner (that I could see).

What decision isn't? I can understand your feelings, but at 3:50, it got so that races would have to be seriously reduced if the weather improved, it started to at 3:30, then got worse again.
