So, has anyone got lucky with some nice photography related gifts this year?

I was incredibly lucky to get the canon 60mm 2.8 macro from my girlfriend, which was totally unexpected and i am massivly thankful for. I also got a Nissin Di622 flash from the parents, and a few miscelanious bits such as a lowpro prorunner 200AW bag and reflector.

I cannot wait to use it all in anger in the new year, particularly diving into the world of macro photography!

So anyone else get lucky?

I got some photography books to add to my growing collection, these two in particular are fantastic...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-York-Portrait-City-Por...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Los-Angeles-Portrait-City-...

Photographic histories of both towns, they work well as they have developed in similar time frames to the camera.

No doubt no hints at all biggrin

Courtesy of you I got a 450D. Good choice Mike. It's now up to me to do it justice.

I got a stunning book from my girlfriend's sister on mastering different styles of photography, good in-depth stuff.

With my presents from my parents and my boss I'm thinking of a 580 exII and a 17-40 F4 L.

Lucky boy here!

I have a Lee Circular Polariser in my mitts, and the Lee DSLR starter filter kit is somewhere en-route (long wait for these, so it's on order).

Also a stack more books on the subject - all to tie in to the 'resolution' of making more time for taking some piccies.

I have finally got a nice velbon tripod. Years of not trusting mine to support my camera are now a distant memory!

When I first entered the SLR world I paid too much attention to gearing up for the camera and forgetting how vital all the accessories are - having spent the evening playing with the camera and the car yesterday I can't entirely recall how I lived pre tripod, remote and bag. Now just got to save up for the slave flash.

I got a knife sharpener, oh, and a lovely new North Face jacket smile.

Although not photography related the knife sharpener keeps my knives sharp for when intruders may stumble on to them and the jacket will keep me warm when out taking pictures!

Now to look for what offers are on for a new lens (quite fancy a 300mmf2.8). Although the Mrs doesn't know that yet wink.

I had a microlite flying lesson as a prezy 2 years ago, and loved it. So wifey bought me another one this year. She asked if I could take the camera up this time and it’s a yes! So hopefully will get some aerial shots of my house and surrounding area plus some peaks of the lakes. Cant wait!

I've got a few photography books on their way (spending Amazon vouchers), and a nice new Lowepro AW302 slingshot. smile

The bag is great in terms of being able to get the camera out without taking it off. The only problem is that I can fit a whole load of kit in it. This is a problem because it weighs a ton when I do, but I struggle to decide what to take out, convinced that I'll end up always needing the thing I leave out! hehe

It is currently comfortably housing the following:

Canon 450D
Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 (on the camera)
Sigma 10-20mm
Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 (surprised to discover that this didn't need to be on the camera to fit)
Sigma 2x TC
Canon 50mm f1.8
Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro
Canon 580 EX II
Canon MR14 EX
Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod and 484RC2 head
Various filters, cloths, memory cards and other bits.

There is still room for wallet, phone, a couple of small guide books and even a small packed lunch!

What should I take out? The Canon 50mm is the most obvious choice, but it weighs bugger all anyway. Other than that, I'm just picturing going for a stroll through glorious countryside (Tamron 28-75, Sigma 10-20 and tripod), then spotting a majestic stag on the far side of the valley (Sigma 70-200) gazing up at the Golden Eagle in the tree next to it (2x TC), before being distracted by the fascinating unknown-to-science ant biting me on the ankle (100mm Macro and ring flash). I suppose I could leave the 580 EX II at home, but what if it starts to get dark before I leave???

This is all a bit silly, isn't it? hehe

My gf gave me the following...

British Wildlife Photography Awards book, which is superb.

Cokin P series filter holder and fitting rings.

Remote cord with integrated auto timer, for some time lapse shots and star trails.

So I'm a happy boy.
