Which Headphones

Hi there.

I was wondering if you could please recommend me some over-ear style headphones. I had a listen to the Monster Beats By Dr Dre Studio Headphones in one of my local electrical shops today and they are amazing, but also too expensive for me. I have, therefore, being doing my homework on the Monster Beats By Dr Dre Solo HD Headphones. After looking at different reviews on YouTube, they seem to be pretty good. I will go back into the shop and ask to plug them into my MP3 and see what i think of them aswell.

These seem to be some of the most expensive headphones on the market, but im not sure if they are the best. Please could you tell me your thought/opinions, or even recommend me a different brand, or even a specific pair of headphones that are around or below £170.

I made a thread not too far back about the same thing - lost my Bose QuietComforts (which are superb on-ear ones btw) and replaced them with the Monster Beats Studios. They're stunning. Sennheiser over ears I found to be hugely disappointing and other than the B&W ones from the Apple store I couldn't find anything which sounded better than the Beats.

Being 14, i dont have enough money for the Studios, and i dont really want to pay that much for a pair of headphones anyway.

How much where the Bose ones you had? And how do they compare to the Studios?

Sorry, I did mean to add that the lower range Monster Beats stuff I also found to be pretty great sounding too. The others I tried were £160 ish and I think £80 or £90ish. The £160 ones were awesome - almost as good as the Studios. The sub 100 quid ones were great too but noticeably 'not-quite-as-good' as the £160 ones.

My bose ones were £250ish I think - better noise cancellation than any other headphone I've used, but not as good sounding for vocal work or music.

I have some "Grado" ones - not sure on model but they area few years old anyway but really good. I found them by looking in a magazine which listed the ratings from old reviews and then looked for decent rated ones which were no longer the current model and so could be found cheap. Mine where about £90.

I use Sennheiser HD25s. They are a monitoring headphone and have excellent clarity. You often see sports commentators wearing them - at the Formula 1 for example. I have them over 10 years so can't remember how much they cost but they are modular so all parts can be replaced except the drivers.

ive just got some monster "ibeats" by dre, in-ear ones and they were around £80, whilst not as good as the studios, the sound is amazing for little ear buds, the bass vibrates your scull!

highly recomended imo.

I've got a very nice pair of AKG K171 studio, bit old but they sound great still. Good bass and they dont leak sound when your wearing them so you can crank up the tunes without annoying everyone around you )
