Sorry, what DSLR for a beginner?

Having thought about it for a couple of months, and being inspired by this thread 2010 Top 5

I would like some help in the January sales. I would like a camera that I can expand if I need to without having to trade it in after a few months. Something not overly complicated and good resolution. What filters, memory card, lenses should I be looking at when I buy it? Or should I just get the camera, click away and then decide I need a zoom lens or whatever?

Sorry for so many questions, but it's very easy to get confused using a search facility. Any suggestions for any particular supplier?

If it were me, I would buy a Canon 550d, a tripod, a polarizer and a remote shutter release and get snapping. But if depends on what photography you fancy.

Your tastes will adjust throughout the learning experience, so i wouldn't buy too much too early.

The kit lens, although generally down on quality, should offer the flexibility between wide and not so wide lens angles

I may be wrong but it's VERY likely that most of the photos on the top 5 thread were taken with either Nikon or Canon DSLRs. I'd buy a starter model with the kit lens, snap away and you'll discover what you need as and when.
