Can anyone recommend companies either national or in the Notts area for a full LPG installation?

This would be tank, boiler, rads etc, and would be a full new installation – not a replacement system (currently electric only).

I’ve got the obvious two – Calor and Flo Gas, but would be interested in quotes from others.

Cheers.

My friends needed this doing and your standard corgi man will need an extra lpg cert to be able to install. You need a specialist installer for lpg systems, google.

As mentioned, if a lot of people don't have natural gas where you are, then there will be plumbers/ gas fitters registered to fit Calor Gas/ LPG or Oftec - oil is the other option. Get your yellow pages out, or see who your local plumbers merchants recommends.

LPG is damn expensive. My friends that have it would love to swap it with my oil heating, and its not like oil is cheap!

LPG is expensive, but not as expensive as electric! I think LPG is on a par with oil now, especially following the recent hike.

Wood pellet?

Shell also sell LPG.

As others have indicated any gas man should be able to install LPG, although some grumble.

This is not for me it's for the inlaws who have recently moved to a retirement park type place and the permitted options are electric or lpg.

I'm already googling - as are they, combined with going back and asking for recommendations from other residents currently using the system.

What I was hoping for were a couple of recommendation in the Notts area for installers who had been used successfully by people on here - or alternatively anyones experience with the nationals - price, quality of install etc.

There are plenty of companies who offer this service, but just like car servicing, I wouldn't take mine just anywhere.

I would have thought it better to keep it all electric, at least the price is not going to fluctuate due to heavy demand (as is the case at the moment). A friend of mine lives on a park home site has started using bottles again as you are tied in to whoever owns your tank and they can charge whatever they like.

We weren't aware of all of the above!!

I would suggest finding local recommended plumbers to install. We had a recommended plumber (local to us) and he had no problem with the system. Some grumble and try to avoid LPG, but it's all just gas in the end. A few different jets here and there. Get them in to have a chat and get a feel for how confident/happy they are with LPG systems.

I would go LPG, you've always then got electric as a fallback.

We're with Flo Gas, for supply. It's worth shopping around and you can now swap your system over to another supplier, but they tend to like tie in periods (24 months) usually with a guaranteed offer price for 6 months or something. I talked to Shell, Calor and Flo Gas when we were becoming de-regulated (which has only happened recently) and Flo Gas offered the best price.

There may be an option to place the tank in the ground, but this will be dependent on the local water table and there may well be an extra cost involved!

Many gas engineers are not registered with Gas Safe for LPG. But more importantly I'd just pull you up on 'it's all just gas in the end'..
LPG is a vastly more dangerous gas than Natural Gas. It's weight makes it far more difficult to disperse and as a 'searching' gas it's testing for tightness is MUCH more strict.

Fair enough I bow to your greater knowledge!

If this is the case even more reason to consider heat pumps. Probably lower capital cost and lower running cost.

Something like a 6kW floor console (looks like a storage heater) should be under two thousand installed - would heat at least 50 sqm of floor area and cost say 15p an hour to run.

Got any links for suppliers/installers? What sort of price installed?

£2k for a device to heat a 1 bed flat (500sqft/50sqm). That sounds expensive.
