Got one or two pics but they arent exciting at all.

Long story short, its a 2.2 X Vectra Sri, had a cylinder head repair 2 years ago. Bought it as a possible head cracked (but tbh im, not so sure, im hoping its just the gasket). It burns coolant off like a trooper, nothing but lovely white smoke out of the back when it runs, however it seemed to idle ok. Never drove it more than a few yards.

Never done anything more than basic servicing, it only cost a few hundred quid so not too fussed if i mess it all up i'll break it for parts.

Anyway, got the cam cover off and a few other bits and pieces, was reasonable proud of myself but still know theres a very long way to go (i spent Christmas morning working on it, is that stupidity or dedication?)

Next i need to get it to TDC, drain the coolant system (which im having difficulty with due to the rad hose), PAS pump off, then can hopefully start on the camshaft itself. When i get as far as the head, do all the valves, springs etc all have to come out? they seem very precise and im worried about losing them.

The other problem i seem to have at the moment is jammed plugs. I get the feeling the person who last worked on the engine wasnt very good (although theres no room for me to talk!).

I've taken advice from PH, got lots of little bags with all the nuts and bolts in, and a piece of paper inside the bag telling me what they are, how many and where they came from. I've taken progressive photographs too.

My biggest worry is cocking up the timing. I just want to see the head and pistons, see what type of condition its all in.... its like a mini suprise i want to open up :P

Anyway, all in the pursuit of getting covered in oil, all for the cause of educating yourself smile

can you not leave the cam in the head, and remove it complete.

these 2.2s often crack around the sparkplug aperture, from people overtightening the spark plugs.

Eek, i was hoping this wouldnt be the case, but i fear it is. Going to give it a crack this weekend.
