Help diagnose my car - burning smell

Evening PHers,

Noticed this first yesterday evening and it hasn't yet fixed itself so merits some attention. Here are the symptoms:

• I get a burning (rubber?) smell inside the car, coming in from the air vents.
• Opened up the bonnet and the smell is definitely coming from there, I think it could be from the radiator/fans.
• Just started earlier today - brakes make a creaking noise (but at low speed at least, appear to be working fine)

No warning lights illuminated.

So, where/what should I be looking?

on my dads tvr chimaera there was a small strip of rubber that had come off the radiator (i think), which had fallen on the engine and started to melt which caused a burning smell.
